GETTING TO THE NEW STORY FESTIVAL
The New Story Festival (September 25-27) will both be at Huston-Tillotson University located at 900 Chicon St, Austin, TX 78702 near downtown Austin.
FROM THE AIRPORT:
Huston-Tillotson is 7 miles (~15 minutes) from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. From the airport take Hwy 71 West to Hwy 183 North to 7th St (heading west).
VIA PUBLIC TRANSIT:
If using the CapMetro Rail, exit at the Plaza Saltillo stop and walk east on 5th St and north on Chicon St (total of 0.6 miles) to Huston-Tillotson University.
There are also several bus stops next to the campus along 7th St and Chicon St, servicing the 4, 322, & 493 routes. Please visit https://www.capmetro.org/ for details.
FROM ALL POINTS NORTH, SOUTH, EAST AND WEST:
Make your way to I-35 and head toward downtown Austin. From I-35 (both northbound and southbound), take the exit for 7th Street. Turn east onto 7th St and drive 10 blocks (0.7 miles). Huston-Tillotson will be on your left. Turn left on Chalmers St to the parking lots on the west side of Chalmers.
If relying on rideshare, we highly recommend using the RideAustin app, a local, non-profit alternative that supports local charities and pays drivers a fairer percentage than the more commonly used apps. Use the Hailacab Austin app for more traditional taxis. The Wingz app is available for pre-arranged rides to and from the Austin airport, and Chariot operates a carpooling-style service. Uber & Lyft are also available in Austin.
Parking for the festival will be in the campus lots at the west corner of Chalmers Ave & 8th St. Spots are limited so please carpool or use public transit/rideshare whenever possible. Nearby street parking may also be available, though please pay attention to local signage.
Where to Stay in Austin
There are no onsite accommodations at the festival. However, there are numerous downtown hotels at all price-points within just a few minutes of the campus, as well as dozens of HomeStay and AirBnB rental options.
Also consider booking a unique Austin experience by staying in a tiny home, tipi, or Airstream trailer at the Community Inn, located in the Community First! Village, a tiny-home development servicing the formerly homeless population of Austin just 15 minutes east of the festival site. Community First! is run by Mobile Loaves & Fishes, one of our local charity partners for the New Story.
HI Austin Hostel - less expensive hostel right on Lady Bird Lake, 2.5 miles (~7 min) from festival site.
Native Hostel - upscale hostel near downtown entertainment districts, 1 mile (12 blocks) from festival site.
Wild Sam Hostel - limited availability, 0.5 miles (5 blocks) from festival site.
The Midtown RV Park is just 2 miles (~5 minutes) east along 7th St from the festival site.
